Synopsis: A cadaver dog discovers a murderer's guilt through
a freshly painted floor. A woman's murder is revealed in the tissue
of her tell-tale heart, ten years after her death. A man's attempt to
cover up his wife's murder is exposed through his saliva. The secrets
shrouding these and other cases might never have been uncovered were
it not for the efforts of forensic pathologists like Dr. Michael Baden
and other "detectives of death."
In the tradition of the first seven Autopsy: America Undercover specials,
Autopsy 8: Dead Giveaway takes a riveting new look at the world
of forensic pathology through the words and case-study examinations
of the country's top autopsy experts.
These "detectives of death" show how, in a very real way, they are
the living interpreters for the dead, as well as how important pathology
and other disciplines can be in revealing the truth behind suspicious
deaths.
In addition to presenting six all-new case examinations, Autopsy
8: Dead Giveaway highlights some eye-opening statistics well-known
to pathologists, if not laymen. When it comes to DNA, for example, you
might not know that...
-Saliva is just as good a source of DNA as blood.
-One in four suspects is exonerated by a DNA test.
-A person's DNA matches 99% of everyone else's. The remaining 1% makes
us different.
Again sharing his insights in this special is Dr. Michael Baden (who
has appeared in all the Autopsy shows), the former Chief Medical Examiner
for NYC who has conducted more than 20,000 autopsies over the past 34
years.
