winners of the 2002 Directors
Guild of America Outstanding Directorial Achievement Awards and the
recipients of the DGA's 2003 Lifetime Achievement Awards were announced
tonight at the 55th Annual DGA Awards Dinner at the Century Plaza Hotel
in Los Angeles. Carl Reiner hosted the Awards ceremony which attracted a record 1,650 guests, including the full slate of presenters: Alan Alda (Betsy's Wedding), Kathy Bates (About Schmidt), Cate Blanchett (The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers), Adrien Brody (The Pianist), LeVar Burton (Blizzard), Gil Cates (A Death in the Family and producer of numerous Academy Awards), Michael C. Hall (Six Feet Under), Salma Hayek (Frida), Cheryl Hines (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind), Michael Keaton (Live From Baghdad), Peter Krause (Six Feet Under), Daniel Day-Lewis (Gangs of New York), Julianne Moore (The Hours), Joe Pesci (Goodfellas), John C. Reilly (Chicago, Gangs of New York, The Hours), Rob Reiner (An American President), Martin Sheen (The West Wing), Steven Spielberg (Catch Me If You Can) and Renee Zellweger (Chicago). OUTSTANDING DIRECTORIAL ACHIEVEMENT IN FEATURE FILM ROB MARSHALL CHICAGO This is Marshall's first DGA Award. OUTSTANDING DIRECTORIAL ACHIEVEMENT IN MOVIES FOR TELEVISION MICK JACKSON Live From Baghdad - HBO This is Jackson's third DGA Award. He received the Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Movies For Television Award in 1995 for Indictment: The Mc Martin Trial, and again in 1999 for Tuesdays With Morrie. OUTSTANDING DIRECTORIAL ACHIEVEMENT IN DRAMATIC SERIES NIGHT JOHN PATTERSON "Whitecaps" The Sopranos - HBO This is Patterson's first DGA Award. OUTSTANDING DIRECTORIAL ACHIEVEMENT IN COMEDY SERIES BRYAN GORDON "Special Section" Curb Your Enthusiasm - HBO This is Gordon's first DGA Award. OUTSTANDING DIRECTORIAL ACHIEVEMENT IN MUSICAL VARIETY MATTHEW DIAMOND From Broadway: Fosse Great Performances: Dance in America - PBS This is Diamond's second DGA Award. He received the DGA Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Musical Variety Award in 1995 for Some Enchanted Evening, Celebrating Oscar Hammerstein. OUTSTANDING DIRECTORIAL ACHIEVEMENT IN DAYTIME SERIALS SCOTT McKINSEY Port Charles, Episode #1433 - ABC This is McKinsey's second DGA Award. He received his first DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Daytime Serials for "General Hospital" in 1995. OUTSTANDING DIRECTORIAL ACHIEVEMENT IN CHILDREN'S PROGRAMS GUY FERLAND Bang Bang You're Dead - Showtime This is Ferland's first DGA Award. OUTSTANDING DIRECTORIAL ACHIEVEMENT IN COMMERCIALS BAKER SMITH This is Smith's first DGA Award. OUTSTANDING DIRECTORIAL ACHIEVEMENT IN DOCUMENTARY TASHA OLDHAM The Smith Family This is Oldham's first DGA Award. MARTIN SCORSESE, LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD For distinguished career achievement in motion picture directing. JOHN RICH, HONORARY LIFE MEMBER AWARD For recognition of outstanding creative achievement, or contribution to the Directors Guild of America, or the profession of directing. JUD TAYLOR, ROBERT B. ALDRICH AWARD For extraordinary service to the Directors Guild of America and to its membership. YUDI BENNETT, FRANK CAPRA ACHIEVEMENT AWARD For an assistant director or unit production manager in recognition of career achievement in the Industry and service to the Directors Guild of America. ESPERANZA MARTINEZ, FRANKLIN J. SCHAFFNER ACHIEVEMENT AWARD For an associate director or stage manager in recognition of service to the Industry and to the Directors Guild of America. |
