At this juncture, it's pointless for me to whine about just how terrible
these "Idol" elimination shows can be. There's a lot of clumsy
time-filling segments, and host Ryan Seacrest never seems more forced
and unnatural.
It didn't help that this week's elimination was the least surprising
one of the season. Jason Castro was absolutely horrific during his two
Tuesday night performances, and even he thought it was time for him
to go.
And while I wasn't surprised to see Syeesha as the other performer in
the bottom two, I don't think she deserved it based on her talent or
her performances from the past few weeks.
But Simon has repeatedly argued that she was never going to win the
show. And even when she throws out an amazing set, he can only offer
the most faint praise.
Perhaps that's why she has been in the bottom two or three nearly all
season. The audience hasn't broken her way yet, but with it all getting
down to the final three next week, it would be a good time for her to
push out that cloying boyband wannabe David Archuleta.
I'm not going to spend a lot of time on the rest of the show. The final
four tried their hand at Steely Dan's "Reeling In The Years,"
and it was as bad as you might imagine. While the vocals were merely
stiff and unbelievable, the dancing looked more like The Wiggles on
crack than anything that was young and hip.
Honestly, I can't wait for this season to be over. I'm just not feeling
it at all and all viewers can hope for is that the show's producers
will make some changes over the summer to reinvigorate the show.
